It has been our practice and part of our devotion to Senior Sto. Niño to organize a group among our family and friends to join the the Sinulog Fluvial Procession. We inherited this practice from our Augustinian friend Rev. Fr. Victor Gonzaga, OSA when we first attended the fluvial procession way back in 2017 — that time Fr. Victor was the school director of Colegio del Sto. Niño and I was the vice president of Parent Teachers Association. When Fr. Vic was transferred to Indonesia, Team Sapong continue to organize the group tapping Carmelite priest Fr. Esmeraldo “Dodo” A. Reforeal, O.Carm to celebrate the mass inside the boat.

This year, we were joined by 104 relatives and friends from Bohol, Cebu, USA, Couples for Christ – Sacred Heart Parish, Colegio de San Agustin – Bacolod, Author Solutions Philippines employees and Colegio del Sto. Niño.

We started our journey with a Holy Mass that was presided by Fr. Christian “Toots” Buenafe, O.Carm and Fr. Dodo; who announced that the money collected in the offertory will be donated to the Shrine of Padre Pio in Batangas for the people that were affected by the recent eruption of Taal Volcano. The group raised a total of Php8422.

We can say that the group this year was more closer to each other. After the mass we had food, fellowship and sharing of our stories and experiences with the Holy Child.

We are looking forward for next year’s Sinulog fluvial procession. We will be preparing for it to be more solemn, convenient and at the same time fun especially that next year will be the celebration for the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines. Mr. Andy Chantengco, the owner of the yacht said the we are always welcome to use his yacht next year.
